Shana Haynie (formerly Shana Calano) graduated from the University of California Santa Cruz in 2008 with a Bachelors Degree in Art. During college, she practiced art in many different mediums ranging from metal sculpture to acrylic painting. In the past few years, she has managed to build a stunning portfolio of comprehensive works that boast flagrant colors, various textures and wild imagination.
She currently resides in San Diego and has been participating in small-scale shows all over the west coast. She was also recently published in the book “21st Century Art: Erotica as A High Artistic Aspiration”. In the summer of 2010, she was invited to join the organization “Raw:Natural Born Artists” and took part in a show at the Se Hotel in downtown San Diego. In the fall of 2010, she participated in an art contest organized by MySoiree.net and won first place and the ability to represent the city of San Diego in a separate show that took place in Las Vegas during January 2011. Most recently, she participated in another RAW art showcase called "PULSE" at The Ivy Nightclub in downtown San Diego. She was also nominated by her peers to possibly be RAW's Visual Artist of the Year 2011 and won the opportunity to compete in a large-scale art and talent show at 4th and B in downtown San Diego on November 17th 2011.
Her aesthetic is best described by saying that each and every one of her pieces is a microcosm of its own, built solely out of her mind’s eye. Each piece is meant to evoke the feeling of being in an imagined world. The use of different styles, materials and colors for the purpose of visual amusement produces work that creates a playground for the eyes. Overall, some of her work has an intrinsic meaning, but for the most part, it is the act of creation that she finds to be the most interesting and important.
